Targeted Treatment for Injury & Recovery
No two injuries or individuals are the same. Understanding how your symptoms developed, what aggravates them and the demands you place on your body helps Mattia choose the most appropriate treatment approach.
Here are some of the common reasons patients book an appointment.
Sports Injuries
From running and gym-related injuries to muscular strains and overuse problems, targeted treatment can help manage discomfort, address movement restrictions and support your return to training and sport.
Muscle Tension
Persistent tightness, muscle soreness and restricted movement can affect both everyday activities and physical performance. Mattia uses hands-on techniques tailored to the areas causing discomfort.
Sports Performance
Preparing for a race or sporting event? Sports massage can form part of your pre-event preparation, helping manage muscular tension, maintain comfortable movement and support your training.

Meet Mattia
Mattia is an osteopath and co-owner of Balanced Motion Clinic, with a particular interest in sports injuries, musculoskeletal problems and helping people stay active.
His approach combines osteopathic assessment with hands-on techniques, including sports massage and dry needling. Rather than following the same treatment routine for everyone, Mattia considers your symptoms, sporting activities and individual goals to determine the most appropriate approach.
Whether you’re preparing for an event, recovering from an injury or managing a persistent muscular problem, his focus is on helping you move comfortably and return to the activities you enjoy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between sports massage and a relaxation massage?
Sports massage focuses on specific muscular concerns, such as tension, stiffness and discomfort associated with physical activity or injury.
Unlike a relaxation massage, Mattia’s appointments are treatment-focused, with techniques selected according to your symptoms, movement and individual needs. You don’t need to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage.
What is dry needling, and does it hurt?
Dry needling involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into selected muscles to help manage musculoskeletal pain and tension.
You may feel a brief pinprick, dull ache or muscle twitch during treatment, but sensations vary between individuals. Mattia will explain the procedure, assess whether it’s suitable for you and obtain your consent before treatment.
Which appointment should I book?
Sports massage is a good starting point if you’re looking for targeted soft tissue treatment.
Dry needling can be booked separately if you’re interested in that particular technique, although Mattia will assess whether it’s appropriate.
If you have several areas of concern, a more complex injury or would prefer extra time for assessment and treatment, the 75-minute combined appointment offers greater flexibility.
Will I feel sore after sports massage or dry needling?
Some temporary tenderness or muscle soreness can occur after sports massage or dry needling, particularly when treating sensitive areas.
This usually settles within a day or two, although everyone’s response is different. Mattia will explain what to expect and provide appropriate aftercare advice before you leave.
Can I book sports massage before a race or sporting event?
Yes. Sports massage can be incorporated into your preparation for a race, competition or other sporting event.
The timing and approach will depend on your sport, training schedule and previous experience with massage. Treatment immediately before an event is generally lighter than a more intensive session, particularly if you’re unfamiliar with sports massage.
Let Mattia know when your event is so he can tailor the appointment accordingly.
